Andy Warhol Knew About Social Media

Andy Warhol knew about social media when in 1968 said: “In the future everybody will be famous for fifteen minutes”, yesterday was the turn for Janis Krums to enjoy that fame, after sharing the very first pictures of the airplane that landed on Hudson River, close to New York City, with more than 150 people on board. The most famous quotation of the major exponent of Pop Culture became prophetic with the born of all these new online communication tools we use today to stay in touch with the world.

For Janis Krums it was a perfect normal day of work in New York City, but his destiny changed when he boarded the ferry back to home; here’s the post form his iPhone, with a link to the now famous Twitpic: : “http://twitpic.com/135xa - There's a plane in the Hudson. I'm on the ferry going to pick up the people. Crazy”. From that moment the name of Janis Krums and his post were known in a ridiculously accelerated way on Twitter, passing from tweet to tweet.

It’s very interesting that the pioneer of the Pop Culture as art like Andy Warhol is without a doubt, made a prediction that perfectly adjusts to Social Media, which by the way, was also born from the pop culture. The star of that prediction yesterday was Janis Krums, with the Twitter name @jkrums had 149 followers when he started the day, and ended having 2,379 followers, and maybe more by now!!

The fame doesn’t stay on Twitter, it goes beyond that world to reaffirm itself in front of a more extended audience conformed by the people who uses the traditional media to be informed. That public doesn’t escape from the Social Media charming, it gets undoubtedly caught, and this truth came bluntly to me yesterday: The last tweet that Krums wrote was: “Just did an interview with MSNBC. The last few hours have been intense. Thanks for all the support”.

I am witness of the Social Media impact not only in the life of the people who actively participate on this world, but in the life of all people, and I will conclude saying as Andy Warhol also said once: “The world fascinates me” ◄
